Under the UNDP and GSMA Memorandum of Understanding, the two organizations have been working closely to strengthen national digital and innovation capabilities in Egypt and across the region.
United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Egypt, in partnership with GSMA, UNDP has launched a high-level training program on artificial intelligence (AI) capacity building for policymakers, bringing together senior government officials, regulators, and representatives from key state institutions at UNDP’s Egypt facility in Cairo.
The program also features regional participation by policymakers and representatives from Libya, Sudan, Tanzania, and Jordan, reflecting the growing importance of cross-regional dialogue and South-South cooperation in shaping responsible AI governance.
This two-day program reflects UNDP and GSMA’s shared commitment to support Egypt’s digital transformation agenda and strengthen the country’s capacity for responsible, inclusive and future-ready AI governance.
Artificial intelligence is already reshaping economies, public services, and governance systems around the world. Ensuring that AI systems are safe, transparent, ethical, and human-centered is increasingly becoming a priority as governments seek to harness their development potential. Egypt is one of the countries taking active steps to address these opportunities and challenges through strategic policy planning and institutional coordination.
This training focuses on strengthening policymakers’ understanding of AI governance frameworks, regulatory approaches, and international best practices. Delivered by GSMA’s global experts, the program introduces practical tools such as the Responsible AI Maturity Roadmap to help educational institutions assess their current readiness and identify a path to responsible AI adoption.
