UAS-B makes AI and ML programs mandatory for Agricultural Science students at Bengaluru Campus

With the aim of helping students keep up with technology change and new innovation, the University of Agricultural Sciences Bangalore (UAS-B) created the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) programmes from 2025-26 that are essential for all Agricultural and Graduate Students (B.SC and M.SC Agriculture) students.

UAS-B has launched a new AI and ML division, including data mining, on the university campus. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed with the Samsung Company to teach AI and ML programs to M.SC (AGRI) students. Samsung implements these programs through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.

In addition to this, procedures have been taken to integrate AI and ML programs with “forced non-ground” course B.SC (AGRI) students.

Deputy Prime Minister Suresh said Hindus“AI is an integral part of all areas including engineering and healthcare. Unfortunately, we are lagging behind adopting these programs in agriculture. We have no expertise in the field of AI and ML. Or the course curriculum may not be suitable for teaching AI and ML to students.

“We discussed with Samsung. We asked them to implement AI and ML programs for students through the CSR fund. We began training on August 30th.

“Around 300 graduate students are enrolled. This is an 80-hour AI program and will be extended to 300 hours of ML courses,” he explained.

Professor Suresh added, “Along with Samsung's CSR Fund, there is a program called 'Hands-On Training' for students in the final year. There are six different modules for students in the final year. You can select one module for your research.

“Non-obligatory Gradation” course

“For agricultural science, the syllabus is the same at all state agricultural universities. There is no freedom to teach new courses. At the same time, there is a provision to start “forced non-granground” courses.^st A student of 2019. The word “forced” indicates that students must pass these courses. These are also regular courses, but are not included in the mark sheet. Instead, students must obtain a satisfactory certificate. I plan to implement this course for 1^st I'm a student in the second semester of this year (AGRI),' he added.

Procuring experts to teach the course

“There is no specialist faculty in our university that teaches AI and ML. However, there are three well-reputed engineering universities and MOUs that are already able to teach AI and ML to students. However, the difference between engineering and agricultural instruments is that they develop technology, but teach students some of the applications of technology. It is developed by engineers, but it is our role to use drones in agricultural activities,” he explained.
