There aren’t many games in the world that feel like their initial concept was born from the idea, “Wouldn’t it be fun if…?” I’m not stupid. Because developing a video game is like being hit by a car, miraculously escaping unscathed, only to be hit by six more cars while you’re still on the road. In any case, this is still what I like to imagine. Trust Me, I Nailed It was born. It’s a turn-based strategy game where you have to do some cool video editing to make your warriors look like monster-slaying legends.
This is a thoroughly ridiculous concept, and one that probably doesn’t quite mesh aesthetically, but I’m still clowning around. This is one of those fake OS type games similar to Hypnospace Outlaw or Her Story, and the main fake software it uses is World Movie Weaver (i.e. Windows Movie Maker).

Rather than finding the usual video and audio sections on the timeline, there’s a pre-populated enemy attack pattern section that shows you exactly where enemies will attack on a grid-based battlefield. There is also a warrior attack pattern section that you can direct in editing. You can drag different clips to move your warrior, perform different types of attacks, and block attacks. There are also “post-processing” modifiers that allow warriors to teleport or take no damage at all. That’s movie magic, baby.
Bits and pieces of the story are then relayed through email and postings on MSN (Mana Scroll Network) to find out whether people actually believe that this extremely cowardly hero is as cool as they make it out to be.
The lack of aesthetic mesh I mentioned is because the hero scenes are all kind of run-of-the-mill fantasy and the fake OS honestly looks like Windows 98. I would have liked a stronger sense of identity, but what would an operating system look like in a fantasy world? How would technology affect the world, and magic? This is a small complaint, however, and the concept is fun enough that it doesn’t make me lose sleep. And it’s free! It’s free so I can’t complain.
It’s also scheduled to be released next week on February 6th, so expect it to be released soon. So until then, you can add it to your wishlist here.
