Tom Holland isn’t worried about AI taking his job.
Currently on a press tour ahead of the release of “The Odyssey” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” he appeared on the Spanish talk show “El Hormiguero” with co-star (and new wife) Zendaya. So Holland said he thinks artificial intelligence is missing so many key elements that creators don’t need to worry about it.
“Creativity is safe from AI because creativity is related to human experience,” Holland said. “It’s a matter of emotion and understanding each other.”
Holland’s words come just one day after the NO FAKES Act, a bill aimed at countering the rapidly expanding wave of AI-generated deepfakes that imitate celebrities’ appearances on the internet, garnered more than 16,000 signatures. It also comes as artificial intelligence has become an increasingly hot topic in Hollywood, with some creators fully embracing the technology and others (particularly those outside the upper echelons of celebrities) rejecting it completely.
“AI can sift through data, but it can’t understand people’s emotions. It can’t tell the difference between happiness and sadness,” Holland said. “I feel protected because the way artists paint is about expressing themselves, not copying anything.”
“It has no soul,” he added. You can watch the entire video below.
Holland has been hitting the road lately ahead of his summer blockbusters, with two of the year’s most anticipated films set to be released in July just a few weeks apart. Zendaya will join “El Hormiguero” and appear alongside Holland in both “The Odyssey” and “Spider-Man,” with “The Drama,” “Euphoria” and “Dune: Part Three” also on the 2026 slate.
Recently, the couple put their own AI to work as fake images of their wedding flooded the internet. When Holland confirmed his marriage to Zendaya to Esquire earlier this week, he said he wasn’t too worried about the photos either. Asked if she was worried her family would be upset by the photos, Holland simply said, “No, because my whole family was there.”
