Founder of Microsoft Bill Gates recently shared advice to young job seekers, particularly Gen Z. In an interview with CNN, Gates said using AI is “fun and empowering,” but warned that mere knowledge about AI tools is not enough to ensure long-term employment stability. He warned that technical skills are important and that workers will not be fired. “This proficiency is not a protection against pink slip despite its wide focus on digital literacy,” Bill Gates said.Nevertheless, Gates insisted that advice to younger generations would remain the same. “Be interested and read and use the latest tools.”
Bill Gates: AI can affect both office and manual jobs
During the interview, Bill Gates acknowledged that artificial intelligence can handle already simple coding tasks, but said that more advanced tasks are still out of reach. He also warned that even blue-collar jobs could be affected immediately.“When robotic arms started to be decent, they're not today, so it starts to affect even greater class labor,” Gates said.Despite concerns about unemployment, Gates said he believes that increasing productivity through automation could bring greater benefits to workers.“If you're more productive, that's good. That means you can release these people… to take longer vacations, or to help out more, you know. That's not a bad thing,” Bill Gates said.In the same interview, Gates said that AI can now replace humans with simpler tasks, but it is still not capable of handling the most complex coding tasks. Gates pointed out that experts in the field do not agree whether AI will achieve this ability within the next one or two years, or whether it is still 10 years away. However, he emphasized that AI is “improving at a surprising rate.”
