TikTok announced this week that it has started automatically labeling AI-generated content created by third-party platforms to prevent AI images and videos from confusing and misleading viewers.

Content created using TikTok's AI creation tools has included AI labels for over a year, but going forward, TikTok will also label AI images created on other platforms. TikTok's tools read Content Credentials, a technology from the Content Provenance and Authenticity Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). Content credentials are designed to attach metadata to AI content and facilitate AI labeling.
TikTok's AI labeling begins rolling out today for images and videos, and will soon extend to audio-only content. AI-generated content will be labeled “AI-generated” under your account's TikTok username.
Labeling can be done in stages because content credentials must be included to identify and label content. AI identification will increase across all social networks as other platforms adopt credentials.
In the future, TikTok will add content credentials to TikTok content that remain when images and videos are downloaded, so people and other social networks can use the C2PA Verify tool to verify AI content created on TikTok. Be able to identify.
