Imagine being hired for a job where your boss is not a human, but an artificial intelligence program. This is the core idea behind RentAHuman.ai. RentAHuman.ai is a new platform for humans to register and be hired by AI agents to complete tasks in the physical world.
The website advertises itself as the “Meatspace layer of AI” with the tagline “AI can’t touch grass. You can.” The platform allows users to “receive compensation when agents need talent in the real world.” Clients can view profiles of people categorized by skill, from “errands” and “ballroom dancing” to “on-site inspection,” as well as by location and hourly wage.
The site gained a lot of attention, with 200,000 people signing up in the first week, Business Insider reported. Created by software engineer Alexander Liteplo and co-founder Patricia Tan. Liteplo told the publication that he built the site in about a day and a half using vibecoding, inspired by Japanese staffing services that he initially found to be “dystopian.” He said he sees this as a way to provide jobs amid current concerns about AI-related job losses. The founders estimate that around 1,000 tasks have been completed through the platform, but said they lack accurate counting tools.
Users create profiles, set rates, and receive payments in cryptocurrencies. Business Insider reports that the platform offers a wide range of products for sale, including a $40 package pickup service and a $110 order to have flowers delivered to an AI company’s office. Another post asked someone to take a photo of a “beautiful, golden, crispy looking egg roll.”
Liteplo acknowledged challenges with content moderation, telling Business Insider that he and his co-founders do “a lot of manual grunt work” to remove fraudulent posts, such as tasks offering payments for social media participation and Bitcoin transfers.
For now, it appears that the AI economy will also need human stewards.
