Perplexity’s AI-powered browser Comet is now available on iOS. It is powered by AI Comet Assistant, which can analyze web pages to provide a quick overview or retrieve specific details.
A dedicated voice mode lets you ask questions instead of typing, and works across all open tabs.
AI-powered browsing comes to iPhone
Comet has been available on PC and Android for some time now. It’s all thanks to Comet Assistant that makes it stand out as an AI-first browser compared to Chrome and Safari.
You can summarize long articles, extract key points, and answer additional questions based on the content you’re viewing.
The new voice mode takes this idea further. Instead of typing your query, just speak it and get a researched response instantly. It works across your open tabs, so you can ask contextual questions about what you’re reading without switching apps or interrupting your flow.
The same functionality is also available in Comet for iOS.
Google search is advantageous for mobile use
Perplexity provides its own search engine, but Comment on iOS uses Google as its default search engine. As a startup CEO describes X, most mobile searches are focused on navigating to shops and restaurants. Google does a much better job at this than Perplexity.
At one point, there were reports that Apple was considering acquiring Perplexity to power its search capabilities. This alone should give you a pretty good idea of the startup’s AI search capabilities.
However, Comet Assistant is always accessible, so you can also invoke it on the Google search results page. But that’s not all. You can ask Comet on iOS to perform tasks on your behalf, such as opening a specific calendar event or preparing questions to ask at your next meeting.
In addition to AI-powered features, Comet for iOS has native ad blocking and background video playback capabilities.
Like Safari and Chrome, Comet for iOS syncs your browsing history, open tabs, and data across all platforms.
Just days after Perplexity introduced a personal computer with the Mac mini, Comet has landed on the iPhone.
