- AI video of Tom Cruise fighting Brad Pitt goes viral
- Generated by Seedance 2.0 and sparking controversy on social media
- SAG-AFTRA is furious
Seedance 2.0, the hottest new generative AI video platform, is now getting the wrong kind of attention. The platform, brought to you by TikTok’s former parent company ByteDance, can create shockingly realistic audio and video with limited prompting, including a new clip of A-list actors Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt performing together on the ruins of a city bridge.
It’s not real. Cruise and Pitt last shared the screen in 1994. interview with vampire And since then, they have gone their separate ways (Pitt: bullet train and oceans Movies; Cruise: Many Mission: Impossible movie).
But the quality is so good that the short clip, posted on
The video gained further attention after Deadpool writer and producer Rhett Reese re-shared it saying, “I hate to say it. It’s probably the end for us.”

The film industry, including those representing actors, has not accepted this situation quietly. According to Variety, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA) announced on Thursday that “Chinese AI service Seedance 2.0 has committed massive unauthorized use of U.S. copyrighted material in just one day.”
And in a statement sent to TechRadar, SAG-AFTRA was equally outraged and echoed the MPA, saying, “SAG-AFTRA stands with the studio in condemning the blatant infringement made possible by ByteDance’s new AI video model, Seedance 2.0. Infringement includes the unauthorized use of members’ voices and likenesses.”
The group, which represents 160,000 actors, broadcasters, dancers, presenters, recording artists, stunt performers and other creative professionals, added: “This is unacceptable and undermines the ability of human talent to earn a living. SeaDance 2.0 ignores the fundamental principles of law, ethics, industry standards and consent. Responsible AI development requires accountability, and that is absent here.”
What would Tom do?
ByteDance is a Chinese company, so US-based MPA and SAG/AFTRA may have little influence here. However, the situation may be different for those using it in the United States. Use Seedance 2.0 to post the Infringing Output on a platform accessible in the United States.
Indeed, some people saw this coming. When I spoke with SAG-AFTRA Chairman Sean Astin at CES last month, he expressed serious concerns about the future. ”[When] There are new levels of functionality and realities like open products available to the public that really pose an existential threat, even an uncertain threat, to our organizations, so we need to respond, understand, and keep moving. ” he said.
The threat seems looming right now, but it’s unclear whether there’s much the film industry, supporting actors, and other creators can do about it other than more aggressively licensing their likenesses to these generative platforms, at least so that someone can get paid when their likenesses are used.
However, it’s more than just a resemblance.
Video quality, including audio, locations, set design, and fight choreography, is usually controlled by humans, who are usually protected by a union. AI creates without the need to hire people or contact unions.
Given the benefits, it’s clear that Seedance 2.0 and tools like it are good enough to take movie ideas and turn them into reality without requiring deep funds or expertise. It could lower the bar for creativity and entry into the movie business. But that’s unlikely to happen as long as people continue to use these tools to infringe on intellectual property and celebrity likenesses.
