What is Figure 01?

Figure 01 is an autonomous robot designed to step in where humans are struggling to meet a request. They can help with labor shortages or simply add a “helpful hand” in industries that require manual labor in warehouses, such as transportation or retail. Figure AI seems to envision these robots not replacing humans in these jobs, but adding safety and support to physically demanding or dangerous tasks.

The company's website states, “By adding the first humanoid robots to the workforce, we can create and produce more, address critical labor shortages, and reduce the number of workers in unsafe jobs. It will be possible to reduce this.”

Blunt weapon or sophisticated machine?

But you might wonder why Figure 01 was made to look and act like a human, if not to replace one.

The company's website explains this, saying that the world is designed around the human form. “Hands allow us to open doors and use tools. Arms and legs allow us to move efficiently, climb stairs, and lift boxes. ” states the website.

“Figure 01 combines human dexterity with cutting-edge AI to go beyond single-function robots to support the entire manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, and retail industry,” the website says.

What can I do?

Figure 01 isn't the first warehouse robot built to help improve such tasks (Amazon fulfillment centers and DHL already use some), but from the founders of Figure AI , this robot will be able to perform a series of highly complex tasks.

A recent video released by Figure AI shows the robot picking up and moving containers and making coffee. Although it doesn't look very advanced, what makes this robot unique is that it is not operated by a human. Instead, it uses an AI program to process the stimuli and commands you give it and independently decide how to proceed next.

You can feel the confidence of the figure AI. Although it has not yet been made public, the company has already raised about $675 million and is valued at about $2.6 billion. The company also has a contract with German automaker BMW to produce “general-purpose” robots to support car production.

Can I invest?

Unless you have millions of dollars on hand, it may not be easy to invest directly in Figure AI right now, as it's not publicly traded yet. However, you can invest with investors. For example, Microsoft (MSFT) is one of Figure AI's largest investors, so if you invest in Microsoft, you will indirectly benefit from future profits from Figure AI driving up Microsoft stock.

However, there are other companies where you can invest in stocks of AI companies, such as:

  • Record Systems Co., Ltd. (REKR)

  • NARDY Co., Ltd. (NRDY)

  • Fiscalnote Holdings Co., Ltd. (Note)

  • Ideanomics Co., Ltd. (IDEX)

  • BigBear.ai Holdings Co., Ltd. (BBAI)

  • DUOT Technologies Group, Inc. (DUOT).

As with any new technology or new company, you need to understand the risks involved in investing. Until something is proven, it's hard to know how much benefit it will bring. However, keep an eye on Figure AI.
