Thermo Fisher Scientific and NVIDIA begin the AI revolution in the lab

AI News

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. announced a strategic partnership with NVIDIA to power AI-based solutions and laboratory automation at scale. This initiative leverages the NVIDIA artificial intelligence (AI) platform and Thermo Fisher Scientific solutions to incrementally improve laboratory automation, accuracy, and speed. The companies are collaborating to advance the digital foundations that power scientific instruments, laboratory infrastructure, and data, and connect them to powerful AI solutions that enable scientists to reduce manual steps and accelerate scientific progress.

Accelerate smarter, connected scientific workflows and labs

Today, in most laboratories, scientists still perform many tasks by hand, from designing experiments and setting up instruments to preparing samples, running instruments, and interpreting results. The collaboration between Thermo Fisher and NVIDIA will meaningfully contribute to modernizing these processes. Power equipment with better AI capabilities, connect labs and data to AI software, and enhance scientists’ ability to design, run, and analyze experimental data.

Thermo Fisher combines its expertise in scientific instruments and lab software with NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure, including the NVIDIA DGX Spark™ desktop supercomputer and models such as NVIDIA NeMo™ and NVIDIA BioNeMo™, to advance scientific instruments and seamlessly interact with scientists with an intuitive user experience that helps democratize the next generation of scientific discovery.

“Artificial intelligence and laboratory automation will transform the way scientific research is conducted,” said Executive Vice President Gianluca Petiti. “Combining Thermo Fisher’s leadership in laboratory technology with NVIDIA’s digital and AI solutions will help our customers work faster, improve accuracy, and get more value from each experiment, ultimately accelerating discoveries that can have significant human impact.”

“We are entering the era of ‘lab-in-the-loop’ science, where the trinity of AI, agents, and instruments can scale scientific discovery at an industrial pace,” said Kimberly Powell, vice president of NVIDIA Healthcare. “Together with Thermo Fisher, we are building the fundamental infrastructure of an autonomous laboratory and creating a powerful research and discovery flywheel that will accelerate the pace of breakthroughs in the life sciences.”

This partnership advances Thermo Fisher’s leadership position in providing cutting-edge instruments, instruments, supplies and services for the life sciences by bringing AI to the laboratory. Thermo Fisher’s ecosystem extends to other leading technology partners that support scientific research, creating integrated products that enable data, instruments, software, and scientists to work together in a unified environment to dramatically improve laboratory productivity.
