AI and ML Jobs

Over the years I have hosted many AI & Emerging Tech events, and I have many questions. Do I need to become an engineer to get a job with AI or do I need to get a PhD?

The talent of the lack of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) or “STEM pipeline problems” is often cited by the tech industry to explain the lack of diversity without acknowledging the self-selection bias that is becoming widespread in the industry dominated by this man. Using the spike in coding camps and the AI narrative of the media dominated by Tech Bro, it is easy to assume that every AI role requires STEM engineering expertise or advanced degree.

While more investments will need to be made in key areas like STEM, where women and BIPOC have been historically underrepresented, there is also an urgent need to reduce barriers to non-engineering and non-academic fields.

As AI adoption grows in diverse industries and functional areas, it creates new opportunities for people outside of the high-tech bubble to build The future of AI. We showcase 12 companies across technology, healthcare, finance, travel and other industries. These actively employ AI roles that do not require engineering degrees.
