We hear you. Everyone in the film and video industry is clamoring for an AI-powered camcorder that can turn mundane, boring footage into AI-powered, amazing footage.
Oh… wait. What is that? Weren’t you all hoping for an AI-powered movie camera…?
Unfortunately, we are happy to introduce the new CMR M-1. This Mark 1 version is inspired by the world's first 16mm movie camera, Ciné Kodak, and is co-developed by SpecialGuestX and 1stAveMachin. It leverages the technology of the AI image generator Stable Diffusion to enable creators to record videos with AI-generated filters.
Regardless of your thoughts on AI, let's check out this new camera and find out what we know so far about the development.
Introducing the CMR M-1 AI-enabled camera
As mentioned above, this new AI-powered camera was co-developed by SpecialGuestX and 1stAveMachin, and while we don't know much about it yet, we do know that it uses Stable Diffusion to allow cinematographers to record footage and send it to a cloud computing service to be processed by AI, producing vastly different and unique results.
The camera itself appears to have a FLIR sensor, which is often used in infrared and thermal imagers, as well as a Snapdragon CPU, a nice-looking viewport, and a setup for mounting interchangeable lenses.
As for recording, it appears you can only record up to 1368×768 at 12fps, but this is likely related to the amount of footage that is transferred and processed by the AI rather than a function of the camera.
AI-powered cinema camera
So, as you know, unlike most film and video cameras, which just record what's actually happening in front of the lens and then store that as data, this AI-powered movie camera is intended to record source material so that the AI can manipulate it.
The CMR M-1 features a unique card slot system that allows users to use five different style cards, each of which acts as a different creative filter that can be tweaked in-camera.
You can see some examples of this in the samples above and below, but of course this is the interesting part of the service – these tweakable AI filters can produce some really weird, and maybe even amazing, results.
Price and availability
Unfortunately for all of you hoping to get your hands on this CMR M-1 camera for your AI film projects, there is very little information available at this time regarding a release date or price, but if you hold on a little longer, we will provide you with more information as soon as it is available.
