Nearly every major technology company has retired some form of AI video model in the past two years, signaling the next wave of generative AI technologies. between Sora, Google Veo3 and in the middle of a journeywhich quickly became a crowded market. AI video is a major advancement in the company's AI creative offerings, and is noteworthy as generative AI becomes a larger part of the content we create and watch online. This is especially legality AI-generated videos are full of ethics.

Many of these companies also offer chatbots and image generators, but I was surprised to find that video generators have their own differences. For example, some of my favorite image generation features are visible in the video model, while others are noticeably absent. With so many options, we've compiled all the main models you can consider, including price, privacy, and real-world testing of each.
That's everything you need to know about AI video generators. This list is updated regularly with the latest information for each generator.
What is AI video generator?
AI video generators are one of the latest ways tech companies are using generative AI. These programs use text-to-video and image-to-video technologies and can create short video clips. You enter a short description called a prompt or upload an image to animate, and the software creates a clip created entirely in gen AI. These AI videos are often 5 to 10 seconds long, and certain models offer synchronized audio. Because this technology is new, it is possible for errors known as hallucinations to occur.
What AI video models are currently available?
Here are some examples of AI video generators currently available. OpenAI Sora, Google Veo 3, adobe firefly and Mid Journey V1. These are all paid programs that give you decent results and allow you to customize your shots in the control panel. Runway is Stable diffusion image generatoranother AI video option for freemium plans. Other AI models Lumapica and ideograms are also available.
Sora joined the ChatGPT family in late 2024, but it wasn't until the Sora 2 overhaul in October 2025 that fans flocked to this AI. You may know the name Sora from OpenAI's new social media app, which uses the same name. However, Sora is the name of the original AI video model, and you can use Sora to create videos without needing an invitation code to use the app.
Via a web browser, Sora is a very user-friendly program. It doesn't have the same conversational UI as Dall-E 3. I can't “chat” with Sora to make corrections. Rather, it's more like a traditional AI creative service. Sora has panels to customize the size, length, and style of your video. You can enter prompts or upload images to animate Sora, and from there you can use several editing options to complete your video. Sora videos are automatically watermarked to indicate their AI origin.
There are two types of Sora models. The latest version of Sora 2 is available for free for a limited time as part of the launch. New models can be accessed through social media apps and the web. Sora 1 is available only to paid ChatGPT users and starts at the Plus tier at $20 per month. Upgrading increases generation limits, lengthens videos, and increases resolution.
OpenAI's privacy policy states that it may train on your content unless you opt out. To do this in Sora,[設定]>[一般]Go to and turn it off. Improving the model for everyone. You can also exclude videos from the public discovery feed in settings. (Disclosure: CNET's parent company, Ziff Davis, filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in April, alleging that it infringed on Ziff Davis' copyrights in training and operating AI systems.)
Google's Veo 3 AI video generator captivated AI enthusiasts when it was unveiled to the public at the 2025 I/O Developers Conference. In my testing, I found the Veo 3 to be a nice step up from my disappointing experience with the Veo 2, but the real difference is audible. Veo 3 can generate audio and automatically sync it to video clips.
Veo 3 videos are 8 seconds long, 720p resolution, and automatically generated in horizontal 16:9 format. It's a very capable program, and the videos are detailed and entertaining, but it's not immune to all the common AI errors and hallucinations.
Veo 3 is available through the $20/month Google AI Pro plan and Flow, a program for filmmakers. You can also test run Veo on YouTube. Creators can now use Veo to create AI-generated short video backgrounds.
Videos are automatically embedded with Google's SynthID watermark (not visible on clips). Google Cloud's general AI policy states that we do not train on customer data without permission.
Midjourney is one of the most popular AI image generators and has just released its first AI video model called V1. Midjourney lets you create video clips from 5 to 21 seconds long at 720p resolution. Midjourney is available from Discord or its website. For now, video generation is paywalled for users, but it's one of the cheaper options at $10 per month.
Midjourney's privacy policy states that we may use personal information and information contained in prompts to improve our services. AI images are private when created in stealth mode. Otherwise, it will be shared in the public gallery.
I'm pretty impressed with Midjourney's value for money, but you need to be patient and specific with the prompts.
Firefly's standalone AI video generator is available now on your computer and through the Firefly mobile app. If you're familiar with Firefly's AI image tools, the video generator setup will feel familiar. The left panel allows you to customize your clips, with the added benefit of being able to choose the type of motion you want (zoom in and zoom out, move left and right, etc.). You can also choose the camera angle you want, for example if you want to mimic drone footage with aerial photography.
Some Creative Cloud plans include Firefly access, including if you're paying for a single program or all Adobe apps. You can see and compare your options here. If you don't have an existing Adobe plan, you can try the Firefly Standard plan ($10 per month), which allows you to create up to 20 videos per month. If you need more generated credits, the Pro plan ($30/month) lets you watch up to 70 videos each month. Both Firefly plans come with unlimited AI image generation. Firefly videos are 5 seconds long, 1080p, and have no audio.
Adobe says videos created with Firefly are commercially safe and its AI policy says Firefly doesn't train content. Firefly videos don't have a visible watermark, but their content credentials are automatically attached to your work. Firefly models are trained on licensed public domain content.
AI enthusiasts may recognize Runway as the startup that co-created the popular AI image generation tool Stable Diffusion. You may also know Runway from the groundbreaking deal it signed with a major movie studio last fall. Lionsgate has agreed to make its catalog — thousands of hours of movies like “The Hunger Games” and “John Wick” and TV shows like “Mad Men” — available to the studios to create custom AI models for use.
I briefly tested the service and was impressed by its quick build tools and overall ease of finding your way around. I've used this service before as part of Canva's Magic Media app, and it's useful for Canva enthusiasts. Runway is a web app and is free to use for 125 credits per month. Each generation uses about 20 credits, so the limit is pretty low. Upgrade ($15 per month or $144 per year) and get 625 credits per month, access to new models, and the ability to upscale videos to 4K and download without watermarks.
Runway's terms of service state that it can train its AI with user prompts and resulting videos, but that it retains no ownership rights to them. Its privacy policy also states that Runway may disclose your information to its affiliates, business partners, and marketing partners. The videos you create will automatically become private.
What other AI video projects do you have?
Notably absent from this list is meta. Although the company is putting resources into developing AI, it does not have an AI video generator available to the public. That version was previewed in October 2024. Here's what we know so far:
Meta's AI video model — Movie Gen — is currently only a research concept, not publicly available, and there's no word on when it will be.
Thanks to a research paper published by Meta, we know that Movie Gen videos can be up to 16 seconds long at 1080p HD and 16 frames per second. The most exciting aspect of Movie Gen is the possibility of synced audio. Meta said Movie Gen can also be used to create sound effects, ambient noise, and up to 45 seconds of instrumental music. There's always a chance this feature doesn't make it to the finals, but it would give the meta an edge.
Perhaps similar to Google and YouTube, some AI-powered features will first appear on its social platforms Instagram and Facebook. (There are already a number of other AI features taking up space on your feed.) Meta's AI models for chatbots and image generators are trained on publicly available Facebook and Instagram content, as well as licensed data.
