Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Saturday said AI videos still have a long way to go and dismissed a video of him addressing the controversy at an Oxford Union debate as fake.
“We’re publishing this: FAKE AI videos are still going to take a long time to develop…!” the pilot said while sharing a video that included a split screen of the fake and real video.
An Oxford Union debate between speakers from India and Pakistan descended into controversy after it was canceled at the last minute, with both sides accusing each other of pulling out. The proposed motion, “This House believes that India’s policy toward Pakistan is a populist strategy sold as a security policy,” is scheduled for November 27.
Distinguished speakers have been announced from both sides, including former Indian Army Chief MM Naravane, politicians Subramanian Swamy and Sachin Pilot from the Indian side, and former Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, former General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, and Mohammad Faisal, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, from the Pakistani side. Hours before the tournament, the Pakistani side claimed that India had withdrawn, which amounted to a walkover. The Indian side, especially advocate J. Sai Deepak, countered that the Pakistani delegation did not show up on time and that India was ready to discuss and share emails and call records to corroborate Pakistan’s statements.
Deepak said Navraneh and Swamy were absent a few days before the debate, and their replacements Suhel Seth and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi were also absent, and Deepak suggested that the other two should take their place.
But three hours before the debate, Deepak said he received a call from the Union Army informing him that the Pakistani side had not yet reached London. He later said that the Pakistan team had probably been staying at the same hotel in Oxford that had been arranged for his stay, and that the entire debacle was a “joint effort” between the Oxford Union, whose president, Moosa Hayat Hiraj, is of Pakistani origin, and the Pakistani embassy.
