Applications are now being accepted for 2027 SARB Data Science and Machine Learning MSc Scholarship. The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is inviting students pursuing a master’s degree in data science and machine learning to apply for full scholarships for the 2027 academic year, specifically related to financial analytics.
Purpose of the scholarship
- SARB provides scholarships and bursaries to students from disadvantaged backgrounds in related fields as part of addressing the severe skills shortage in South Africa.
- To support the corporate social initiatives of SARB and its External Scholarship Scheme, a number of external scholarships and bursaries are offered each year to eligible postgraduate students.
- SARB, in collaboration with the Data Science Academic Board of the National Graduate Academy of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (NGA(MaSS)), invites master’s degree-seeking students to apply for competitive SARB scholarships in the fields of data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence, with particular reference to financial analysis.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must meet the following requirements:
- Tentatively accepted into one of the identified master’s degree programs.
- You have selected a module that includes financial analysis topics.
- Hold a relevant honors degree with an average overall pass mark of at least 65%.
- Be a full-time student.
- Be a South African citizen. and
- Be under 35 years old.
As part of the scholarship acceptance criteria, students may be expected to attend specific workshops as required by SARB and NGA(MaSS).
How to apply
- The deadline for submitting applications is Saturday, October 31, 2026.
- Late applications will not be considered.
- Exam results, certificate of passing from an accredited institution (student number and other supporting documents must be submitted with the application).

Submission of test results by scholarship recipients
- Scholarship holders must submit their exam results by Thursday, December 31, 2026, regardless of whether they are awarded a scholarship for the following year.

- Potential external funders must be available for interviews.
- Successful scholarship candidates will be required to sign an agreement with SARB.
