In just a few days Monday, June 10th at 1pm ET One of the world's largest and most influential companies apple (AAPL) may make announcements that dramatically change the way we live, work, and play.
And one small AI company might be able to help make it happen.
Here's the story:
Every year, Apple holds its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in Cupertino, California, where the company delivers major software updates to Apple customers and announces new products and services. The conference has been held since 1983 and is a must-attend event for anyone interested in what's next for Apple.
For example, Apple introduced the Mac Pro at WWDC in 2006, the App Store at WWDC in 2008, and the Vision Pro at WWDC 2023 last year.
And this year, at WWDC 2024, I predict we will see the release of the long-awaited blueprint for the AI race.
As I often say, Apple is a $3 trillion elephant. do not have As for AI races, the room has…
Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (Amazon), alphabet (Google), and NVIDIA (NVDA) is all-in on AI, yet Apple has been conspicuously quiet about its AI development and investments.
On June 10th, that all changes.
Apple isn't sleeping here, but rather waiting for the right time to launch a high-profile AI service.
It's the same as iPhone.
Apple wasn't the first to enter the smartphone market. blackberries (B.B.), but it was Apple that revolutionized the smartphone.
I think Apple's “iPhone moment” in AI is just a few days away.
Apple's data treasure trove is revolutionizing AI
A lot of people don't understand that Apple is uniquely positioned to create good AI because good AI is based on good data. And Apple is sitting on a treasure trove.
There are now over 1 billion iPhones in the world. Roughly 1 in 6 people owns an iPhone. And we use them all day, every day. For example, the average American spends almost 5 hours per day on their phone.
We use our iPhones to listen to music, watch movies, text friends, read the news, trade stocks, and much more.
We live our lives with our iPhones. In fact, in today's society, it's fair to say that most of our lives are trapped inside that small, rectangular device.
So, of course, Apple has direct access to our lives.
Think about the data your iPhone collects about you every day. Your Spotify and Apple Music streams, your YouTube shows, your news feed, your messages. All of this is collected every day. Apple has all of that personal data it needs to create hyper-personalized AI.
But data is only half of the equation for creating good AI.
OpenAI Connection
Good AI is like a good car: it needs a good engine and lots of fuel. Apple has the fuel, and it has the data, but it doesn't have a good engine.
This is where OpenAI comes into play.
The company behind ChatGPT probably has the best AI models in the world, the best “engine” so to speak.
That's why reports of Apple and OpenAI teaming up have recently surfaced. According to the report, the two companies have partnered to bring ChatGPT and OpenAI models natively to the iPhone via iOS 18, the latest iPhone software update scheduled to be officially announced at WWDC 2024 on June 10.
What exactly does that look like?
No one knows for sure, but maybe that means integrating ChatGPT across the iPhone, replacing Siri and equipping every iPhone with its own ChatGPT AI customized for the phone owner.
Imagine if Siri was actually super smart and capable… it could make restaurant reservations for you, send you messages and emails that were actually properly worded, plan your day, suggest TV shows and movies, find recipes, etc.
This is what I believe Apple will announce alongside iOS 18 at WWDC 2024. It will be all about upgrading iPhones with AI features and services.
And I think certain apps are going to be at the heart of this big AI upgrade for the iPhone.
The last word
Here's where it gets really speculative…
But if I'm right…
And research shows that I…
