In the key moves to modernize the state's mining sector, Rajasthan will use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for the first time in mineral exploration.
The officials told IANS that initial preparations have begun, and that the report should be submitted in this context within about 45 days.
This is the first and innovative initiative of AI-ML in Rajasthan, officials told IANS on Tuesday.
T. Ravikant Chief Secretary, T. Ravikant has announced that pilot projects will be launched in Bhilwara, Chitgarh, and some areas of Chittorgarh, to use AI technology to identify potential zones of critical and strategic minerals.
The project will be carried out through the Rajasthan Mineral Exploration Trust (RSME) in cooperation with private exploration agencies notified by the central government.
Rajasthan is already the leader in major mineral auctions and has witnessed a significant increase in mining revenue.
Of the 82 types of minerals found in the state, 57 are currently mined.
With this initiative, the government aims to accelerate its investigation into undeveloped and valuable mineral reserves hidden beneath the surface of the state.
Ravikant explained that AI can help identify high potential mineral zones more efficiently than traditional methods.
“AI-based approach saves time, cost and labor while increasing the scientific accuracy of mineral detection,” he said.
AI-based exploration utilizes data from a variety of sources, including satellite imagery, ground penetration radar, and historical geological surveys from both central and state agencies.
The pilot is led by a Hyderabad-based NPEA Critical Mineral Tracker, a private company working under the central government.
The agency is already active in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh and is now bringing its expertise to Rajasthan.
Once AI analysis identifies promising areas, excavations are performed followed by chemical analysis of the core sample.
Based on the findings, mineral blocks will be prepared for auction.
Rajasthan has a wide range of limestone reserves of important and strategic minerals such as copper, basic metals, iron ore, which could be promising.
Both Union and State governments have a particular focus on identifying and mining these important resources. This is key to national development and technological advancements.
“This is the first time AI has been adopted for mineral exploration at Rajasthan, a transformational step that brings speed, accuracy and innovation to the sector,” said Deepak Tanwar's mine chief.
