The following fake The Dark Knight Returns trailer has been viewed nearly 1 million times as of this writing.
The trailer, released by KH Studio's YouTube channel on April 28, 2024, includes an old trailer for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy and Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Video is featured. It also brings back Gary Oldman using footage from the past.
Most importantly, it uses AI to recreate Christian Bale's Batman in scenes. According to the trailer, Bruce Wayne will play Black Mask, a rehash of footage from the DCEU film Birds of Prey in which he was played by Ewan McGregor.
But sadly for fans who want it to be real, KH Studio is known for posting fake concept trailers created by fans. The Dark Knight Returns trailer is just one example, and DC Studios has not greenlit any such Batman sequel.
Following Oppenheimer's lead, director Christopher Nolan is reportedly working on a remake of The Prisoner, with Bale starring in The Bride, which is scheduled for release in 2025.
Instead, two other live-action Batman movies are currently in development. The first film will be “The Batman 2,'' directed by Matt Reeves. Robert Pattinson's The Batman is set to return in 2026 under his DC Elseworlds banner.
The second film is titled The Brave and the Bold and will be produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios. The film, set in Gunn's DCU, will be released after Gunn's next film, Superman, and will feature a new actor in the role of Batman.
