Meta has also gotten into the super PAC game, forming two different PACs last year to support candidates aligned with its vision for AI regulation.
Unlike other PACs, Meta's efforts focus primarily on the state level.
One PAC is called “Mobilizing Economic Transformation Across (Meta)California,” and will specifically focus on the Golden State, where Meta is headquartered.
“As home to some of the world's leading AI companies, California's innovation economy has a significant impact on U.S. economic growth, job creation and global competitiveness,” a Meta spokesperson said. “However, Sacramento’s regulatory environment could stifle innovation, hinder advances in AI, and jeopardize California’s technology leadership.”
The spokesperson added that the PAC supports candidates from both parties who “recognize California's critical role in AI development and embrace policies that keep the state at the forefront of the global technology ecosystem.”
Another PAC, the American Technology Excellence Project, will focus on races in other states.
“With a growing patchwork of contradictory regulations threatening our nation's innovation and investment in AI, state legislators are uniquely positioned to ensure America remains a global technology leader,” Meta Vice President for Public Policy Brian Rice said in a statement.
Neither PAC has yet spent much money.
