Adobe has officially updated Premiere Pro with text-based video editing. After being in beta for some time throughout the year, Adobe announced last month that the feature would be coming to Premiere Pro in May, and an update to it was made available last week.
AI-powered transcript generation
The feature works using Adobe’s Sensei machine learning, which the company has previously used to generate transcripts. In addition to automatically creating transcripts of all video files for use in closed or open captions, Premiere can now perform A-roll edits by simply removing some text.
analyzes the audio track for each word and marks long pauses with an ellipsis. Hover over it to see the exact length. Cutting an A-roll into a rough draft is as easy as cutting out some text or removing silence from the transcript, and the same changes are immediately reflected in the timeline.
Text-based editorial deliverables typically require audio and color improvements, B-roll additions, and precise timing adjustments, saving significant time when dealing with large amounts of footage can. .
Mouse improvements, iPhone cinematics and more
Text-based editing was our biggest feature yet in this release, but there are several other improvements to Apple ecosystem capabilities. Adobe has improved Apple Trackpad and Magic Mouse support for smoother scrolling. Small change, but welcome! Adobe has also added support for cinematic clips shot in cinema mode on the iPhone.
The latest version of Premiere also includes several other quality of life improvements. Autosave has always been an important feature, but it kept me in the foreground of my project while I was working, pushing me away from it every time I saved. Autosaves in Premiere happen in the background, so your workflow won’t be interrupted. And finally, Adobe has extended its transcription support to include Danish as well.
