State Chief Information Officer Amanda Crawford said in a recent interview that when the Texas government has something to do with artificial intelligence, things are beginning to get hot.
“We can still know your stage,” Crawford said in a video interview. “We're taking it more seriously and we're starting to see its potential and future promises together.”
She said her department, the Ministry of Information Resources, is developing learning materials to help employees of all levels of technical expertise to better understand what AI technology is and how they work.
Dir also works in AI through the Innovation Lab at the Texas Education and Innovation Center. This is the physical space that 27 agencies have come together so far to meet with vendors and see if various products can help you with your work.
“I liken it to driving a car, where you kick the tires, take them for the drive and see if this works for your agency,” Crawford said.
She said 50 AI projects are ongoing, including many chatbots and several tools designed to improve the operation of the institution. She said that most people are “basic tools” designed to make everyday life easier.
