Tesla's Elon Musk and AI Head Ashok Elswamy Unsupervised FSD Test (Video)

Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk and Ashok Eluswamy, the company's head of real-world AI, both shared their experiences with the latest version of unsupervised fully autonomous driving (FSD).

Musk and Ashok tested unsupervised FSD in a Tesla Model Y Juniper vehicle based on the latest HW4 (AI4) processor.

The term “unsupervised” refers to the absence of a driver or safety monitor in the front seat. Although the rider sits in the back seat of the Tesla vehicle, there is no opportunity to control the vehicle from there in safety-related situations.

“Sitting in the passenger seat of a Tesla with no safety monitors in the car, I drove flawlessly all over Austin on Sunday,” Elon Musk said of his unsupervised FSD experience.

“What a great experience!” Ashok responded to Musk's X post with the following video, which shows him riding an unsupervised FSD in Austin, Texas.

“If you remember, a few months ago we had a safety monitor in the passenger seat, but this Tesla was built today with no one in the car and no one driving the car,” Tesla's head of AI said in a video.

In a two-minute video clip shared by Ashok Elluswamy, an unmonitored FSD-enabled vehicle drove through the streets of Austin, Texas. It turned right at intersections, waited patiently at traffic lights, and best of all, interacted with pedestrians naturally, much like a human driver.

The fact that top executives are testing their self-driving systems and taking the risk of riding without a driver or safety personnel on board speaks volumes about their confidence in Tesla FSD.

Unsupervised FSD software is a completely different and unreleased version of AI software. The current publicly distributed versions are FSD v14.2.1.25 and FSD v14.2.2.1. These versions require constant human supervision and attention to reduce mistakes and errors that may be introduced by Tesla FSD (Supervised).

Tesla has tested its fully self-driving technology in Texas and received state-wide approval to launch a robotaxi service. This gives automakers the freedom to test FSD over a much wider area and collect data to further enhance their AI-based vision-driven systems.

Companies in the auto industry are approaching Tesla to license its FSD AI technology. But their demands against Tesla are unreasonable. Elon Musk says it's time to license Tesla FSD or face visible disruption on the horizon.
