“I use generative AI in the classes I teach at the Herbert College of Business to help students simulate real-world business scenarios and reflect on how to use AI,” Ali says. “The AI ​​Showcase highlights our faculty’s commitment to innovation across disciplines and preparing students for the world of tomorrow.”

On the research side, AI@AU, led by Samuel Zinn Institute of Technology, expands AI research and education across campus, fostering the sharing and growth of ideas. AI research has generated numerous academic publications and several news articles, demonstrating its far-reaching impact.

Recently, the Engineering Department established the Auburn University Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Engineering Center to advance AI-driven cybersecurity solutions.

Teachers are also leveraging virtual reality (VR) as a powerful AI-driven tool in education.

The College of Nursing’s 10,000-square-foot simulation suite recreates hospital, clinic, and community environments, allowing students to practice skills and complete clinical hours. Tiffani Chidume uses VR to take simulation further and create real-world scenarios for students.

Pharmacist Kim Garza combines VR with movement-restricting gloves to simulate the physical limitations of chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. By experiencing it for themselves, first-year students develop empathy, allowing newly diagnosed patients to better understand their illness and make more informed treatment decisions.
