  • OpenAI debuted its Super Bowl LX ad on Sunday.
  • This one-minute ad encouraged people to build something using AI.
  • The ad does not mention Anthropic, which mocked OpenAI in its Super Bowl ad.

OpenAI is running a Super Bowl LX ad encouraging people to use its coding agent to build their dream projects.

But its Super Bowl ad released earlier this week makes no mention of Anthropic or its not-so-subtle efforts at rival ChatGPT.

Anthropic’s ad doesn’t directly mention OpenAI, but it teases the company’s plans to run ads on the platform.

“Advertising is coming to AI, too. But not to Claude,” the tagline reads.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to Anthropic’s Super Bowl ad with a lengthy X post last week.

“First of all, the best part about the Anthropic ad. It was funny and made me laugh,” Altman wrote. “But I wonder why Antropic would do something so obviously dishonest.”

OpenAI’s own one-minute ad, released Sunday, is more serious. It shows a man’s lifelong pursuit of knowledge from childhood to adulthood. The ad ends with him using OpenAI’s Codex tool to achieve his goal.

“Our task was to create a film that felt like the beginning of an architect’s story, with curiosity, frustration, and a final breakthrough,” Michael Tabtabai, OpenAI’s vice president of global creative, said in a statement.

“We built on the influences that shaped our own researchers and engineers and combined it with real stories from people across the country who are using ChatGPT to build in their everyday lives,” he said. “If someone watching thinks, ‘Maybe I can do that,’ then we’ve done our job.”
