Suda51 asserts that Romeo is a Dead Man does not use any generative AI

As the use of AI in video games increases, including in the Japanese industry, veterans such as Suda51, Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu, and Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto have recently taken a stand on the important role that human creativity plays in game development.

An interesting feature of Romeo is a Dead Man is that it replaces AAA-style 3D cutscenes with manga-style moving panel cutscenes in places as a way to reduce development costs. It also features a pixel-art spaceship interior gameplay section. Of course, all of these were created by human artists. The panel cutscenes were drawn by Grasshopper Manufacture's concept artists Tadayuki Nomaru and Ren Yamazaki, while the spaceship portion was created in collaboration with pixel animation artist Hattori Graphics.

In addition to the statement that “nothing was generated by AI,” Suda51 also revealed that the developers are working hard to make a port of Romeo is a Dead Man to Nintendo Switch 2 possible. Originally announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series

Romeo is a Dead Man is scheduled to be released on February 11, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows (Steam). A Nintendo Switch 2 version is currently in development.
