Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak addresses graduates at Grand Valley State University’s graduation ceremony for the Class of 2026.

Unlike some recent commencement speeches that have divided the internet, Wozniak’s remarks on AI were warmly received by students, and there was applause and laughter throughout the event. Wozniak spoke about both artificial intelligence and human intelligence. “You all have AI…actual intelligence,” he said in the video. This comment immediately drew cheers from the students.

The veteran technology entrepreneur also reflected on his decades of experience in the technology industry, making his points with humor. Rather than focusing directly on machines and software, he referred to human biology, emphasizing the uniqueness of the human mind.

he said: “In the tech world, I’ve always followed people who are trying to figure out how to build a brain. At the company I was at, engineers figured out how to build a brain… It takes time…”

Instagram handle Market Watch shared the video and wrote, “His comments received a warmer response from graduates than other recent incidents where commencement speakers were booed for discussing and praising artificial intelligence.”
