Lead singer of Stereophonics Kelly Jones As the use of artificial intelligence in music progresses, he said, “Art should come from people.”
The 49-year-old lead singer of a rock band formed in Wales in 1992 also questioned the move to multiple songwriters on a release.
In an interview with Times Radio at Latitude Festival in Henham Park, Suffolk on Sunday, the Welsh musician said he didn’t understand how AI technology was being used to “end people making songs”.
Mr Jones was playing with his new band at the festival far from saints.
he said: “I’m not against advanced technology or progress, but I think art should come from humans. Whatever the basis of art, I think it should come from humans.
“I think art is always an expression of someone, an expression from a real human heart and head.
“If you’re going to start an idea, the computer will finish it. That’s fine, but it’s just about algorithms and stuff like that, not my personal sense of where it should come from.”
“I’m not really interested in having 10 songwriters on one song.
“When you make a painting, it’s like having 10 painters putting paint on a canvas. Whose painting is it now?”
The band will be playing in Wales tonight to support Sir Tom Jones at Cardiff Castle.
In an interview with ITV Wales, Kelly Jones talks about big plans with Stereophonics For the future.
He said, “Stereophonics is where I started and will continue to do so. We all love each other as a band and have big plans for maybe 2024 or 2025.”
“So it doesn’t end like this or anything like that, it’s just a continuation of different types of music!”
