If you’ve ever had an AI chatbot test your patience, this job will pay you $800 to release your frustrations.
An AI software company is now accepting applications for someone’s dream job: Professional AI Bully.
“You’ll spend a full eight hours a day interacting with the leading AI chatbot, and your only job is to be brutally honest about how frustrated you are with them,” the listing reads.
This role pays $100 per hour for 8 hour shifts. On this day, popular AI chatbots will be memory tested and critiqued. Candidates are asked to document interactions while asking the chatbot to remember information, see what they forgot, and ask questions again.
“People have to repeat themselves to chatbots all the time, and we wanted to make that daily frustration tangible,” Memvid co-founder and CEO Mohamed Omar told Business Insider.
The company offering this job posting is an AI startup focused on solving memory problems in AI models. In 2024, Omar and his co-founders set out to build an AI agent to screen and hire medical staff. In the process, he said, a larger problem was uncovered.
“All AI lives and breathes in memory. It’s the holy grail. But that means any AI memory solution on the market in 2024 will be unreliable, lose context, and be hallucinatory,” Omar said.
The risk is especially acute in the medical field, where sensitive data is involved, Omar said. So the two founders built their own AI memory solution. The company currently offers two products. One for technical users and one for non-technical users.
New job postings are an effort to promote the company and its products. Omar said the company will initially hire one person for the job, but may hire more in the future to expand the campaign and raise awareness of the issue.
job requirements
What’s more, candidates for this job don’t need special AI skills, a computer science degree, or any kind of work experience.
An online form asks candidates to describe their most frustrating experience with an AI chatbot and explain why they should be considered for the role.
The job posting says candidates must be over 18 years old, have an “extensive personal history of disappointment with technology” and have enough patience to ask the same questions over and over again. Camera shooting comfort is another quality startups look for. Because candidates are recorded during their shifts and companies can share the videos for promotional purposes.
Omar said there is no deadline for accepting applications, but he expects to shortlist suitable candidates within the next week or two.
Omar said a recent college graduate applied and sent a follow-up email saying he was paying almost $300 a month for all AI subscriptions. He said the person went on a whole rant about how he had encountered memory issues with every AI platform he had ever used.
“Many of the people applying for this are knowledge workers who are using these products,” Omar said.
