british columbia – starfish medical received $620,000 from pacifican Hire artificial intelligence (AI) experts to support the purchase of computing equipment and develop an AI platform to accelerate medical device design.
This funding is expected to support high-quality technical jobs, accelerate life sciences innovation and increase export revenues for B.C.-based health technology services, while improving patient health outcomes.
Starfish Medical is one of eight BC technology companies to receive a total of $17.3 million from PacifiCan.
The other is Musora Abbotsford-based music technology company provides subscription-based online music education in drums, piano, guitar, bass, and vocals to students in more than 90 countries. The investment will help Musora build a new in-house studio, expand its multilingual content including Spanish language programming, and enhance its digital platform with AI-enabled features that personalize the learning experience.
The funding announcements were made as follows: human-powered robotics (HMR) is a Vancouver-based company that develops XoMotion, an advanced wearable robotic system that helps people with movement disorders regain independence. HMR has received a $3 million investment to help commercialize its personal mobility exoskeleton by integrating AI into its core technology, filing for intellectual property protection, and scaling manufacturing for use beyond clinical settings and into home and community settings.
These announcements come as BC prepares to host the Web Summit Vancouver technology conference for the second year. The Government of Canada, through PacifiCan, is investing $6.6 million to connect Canada’s technology sector to global opportunities at Web Summit Vancouver.
