As AI-generated content sweeps across all platforms, clear indicators are needed to identify its presence. Platforms like Steam and social networks have implemented AI disclosure, but Spotify is taking a different path. The music streaming giant has announced a “Verified by Spotify” badge that will appear on artists’ profiles to indicate their authenticity and confirm that they are humans and not AI.
One of the big concerns about Spotify is the increasing number of AI-generated tracks flooding the platform. The influx of such media continues despite Spotify’s efforts to tackle synthetic content.
This new verified badge helps listeners distinguish between authentic artistry and AI-generated work. At launch, this feature aims to identify 99% of the most searched artists, representing hundreds of thousands of creators.
This badge will start appearing next to artists’ names on profiles and search results in the coming weeks. Users will see both the text “Verified by Spotify” and a corresponding green checkmark icon, making it easy to identify verified artists. To ensure badges reflect true engagement, verified artists must have consistent listener activity, remain in good standing, and maintain an identifiable presence on and off the platform.
Interestingly, AI-generated content may eventually earn a verified badge. Spotify said AI-generated profiles representing artists will not be subject to verification “at launch,” suggesting the policy may change in the future.
The company noted that artist authenticity is complex and rapidly evolving in today’s climate, adding that its approach will continue to evolve as AI becomes more prevalent.
Providing clear indicators of reliability, regardless of future changes, helps build trust. Spotify has revealed that a dedicated review team will verify artists. By combining platform standards and human judgment, the service aims to help users discover authentic artists who act with confidence and integrity, ensuring a reliable signal of authentic music.
