One year after a rare record scratch, Spotify is bringing back old favorites and incorporating new features that people actually like in the 2025 edition of Wrapped, which arrived yesterday.
After many users complained about the 2024 service on social media, Spotify executives said they used the disappointment to spur this year’s long-awaited update to its review data dump.
- Top Genre is back after an unexplained absence last year.
- New features include top albums and audiobooks, top song plays, a game to guess the top song, and “Wrap Party,” a “live contest you can play with friends” on the app.
- Furthermore, your “listening age” may be revealed based on the data. Our editor-in-chief, Neil Freiman, was 92 years old, a little older than we would have guessed.
No AI (but not completely): Spotify faced backlash for going all-in on AI at the last minute in 2024. The only thing celebrating AI this year is a listening archive that pinpoints trends on any given day (i.e., reminds you of that sad song you played 100 times when you got dumped on February 14th).
Like and subscribe: Wrapped is more than just sharing on social. During the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call, co-president Alex Norstrom said Wrapped “has been a key driver of our business.” Last year, 245 million users participated.—DL
