Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced on April 2 that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Cinemarsive Labs, a UK-based machine learning and computer vision company founded in 2022.

The move comes as part of SIE’s pursuit of “new ways to push the boundaries of visual computing and deliver richer, more immersive gameplay experiences.” Following the acquisition, Cinemarsive Labs engineers will become part of Sony’s VGC (Visual Computing Group, established in 2024) and will focus on research and development of advanced neural networks and machine learning for game rendering and streaming systems.

Cinemarsive Labs’ expertise is expected to contribute to “advances in cutting-edge visual computing in games,” including applying machine learning to enhance gameplay visuals, improve rendering techniques, and achieve higher levels of visual fidelity.

According to Cinemarsive Labs’ official website, the company’s AI specializes in creating volumetric 3D images and volumetric VR videos.
