Sony has been awarded a new patent for creating bespoke AI-generated podcasts featuring video game characters.
The patent, filed in July 2024 and granted in late January 2026, is titled “LLM-Based Generated Podcast for Gamers.”
“Video game platforms currently lack the ability to provide gamers with unique and targeted content to keep gamers up-to-date on what is happening on the platform,” the patent claims. “There are currently no suitable solutions to the computer-related technical problems mentioned above.”
The solution proposed by the patent is to “generate a podcast of news related to data, where the podcast presents the news in the voice of a video game character of the video game played by the video game player.”
The description depicts a scenario where a player boots up the console and sees a message on the home screen that says, “Your personalized podcast is available today.”
The podcasts in this example are not pre-recorded podcasts available to all users, but are all individual based on what each user has played, and may even feature characters from the games they are playing.
It could even lead to a potential crossover situation, with patents mentioning the possibility of characters from one game interacting with characters from another.
According to the patent description, the console will pull data from a variety of elements, including recent gameplay, friends list, and other console-level events, and inform players about them in this podcast.

In one example, the player sees two AI hosts presenting a podcast. One host said, “Jack Brown just won Trophy 532 in Space Explorers. Why don’t you give that game a try?” The other host replied, “Ha! If you think you have the skill!”
In another message, the first host said, “In other news, we have a software update for Gen X, please update now.” The co-host added, “Also, try your spin move on the boss this time!”
The patent also suggests that players will be able to customize their podcasts to include or omit certain information, such as news about games they own, recommendations for games they don’t yet own, friends’ achievements, moves they can try in their own games, and firmware and software updates.
“In some cases, the audio may include jokes at the video game player’s expense,” it added.
