Snowflake and NVIDIA Team Up to Power Custom AI Applications

Applications of AI

Snowflake announced its collaboration with NVIDIA at Snowflake Summit 2024. The partnership aims to enable customers and partners to leverage NVIDIA's AI technology to develop custom AI data applications within Snowflake.

Through this collaboration, Snowflake will integrate NVIDIA AI Enterprise software and embed the NeMo Retriever microservice into Snowflake Cortex AI, Snowflake's managed LLM and vector search services. The integration will enable organizations to link custom models to a variety of business data and seamlessly deliver accurate responses.

Additionally, Snowflake Arctic, an open, enterprise-grade LLM, now supports NVIDIA TensorRT-LLM software for improved performance, and Arctic is also available as an NVIDIA NIM inference microservice, providing broader developer access to Arctic capabilities.

As businesses seek to realize the full potential of AI, the need for data-driven customization is growing. The collaboration between Snowflake and NVIDIA will facilitate the rapid development of specific AI solutions to benefit businesses across sectors.

“Combining NVIDIA's full-stack accelerated computing and software with the cutting-edge AI capabilities of Snowflake's Cortex AI is groundbreaking,” said Sridhar Ramaswamy, CEO of Snowflake. “Together we are ushering in a new era of AI where customers across any industry and skill level can easily, efficiently and reliably build custom AI applications on their enterprise data.”

“Data is the essential raw material for the AI industrial revolution,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “Together, NVIDIA and Snowflake are helping companies refine their own business data and transform it into valuable generative AI.”

Notable NVIDIA AI Enterprise software capabilities delivered with Cortex AI include:

  • NVIDIA NeMo Retriever: Providing accurate, high-performance information retrieval for the enterprise.
  • NVIDIA Triton Inference Server: Makes it easy to deploy, run and scale AI inference for a variety of applications on any platform.
  • As part of NVIDIA AI Enterprise, the NVIDIA NIM inference microservice can be deployed within Snowflake as a native app using Snowpark Container Services, a setup that enables organizations to easily deploy the underlying models directly within Snowflake.

Quantiphi, an AI-first digital engineering company and an “Elite” partner of both Snowflake and NVIDIA, is a great example of this innovation. Quantiphi's Snowflake-native apps, baioniq and Dociphi, are designed to enhance productivity and document processing in specific industries. Developed using the NVIDIA NeMo framework, the apps are available in the Snowflake Marketplace.

Snowflake Arctic LLM, released in April 2024 and trained on NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs, is now available as an NVIDIA NIM. This provides flexible deployment options by making Arctic accessible in seconds either through the NVIDIA API catalog with free credits or via a downloadable NIM.

Earlier this year, Snowflake and NVIDIA expanded their collaboration to build a unified AI infrastructure and computing platform into the AI Data Cloud. Today's announcement marks a major step forward in our joint mission to help customers succeed with their AI initiatives.
