Last week, top social media app Snapchat revealed it was expanding the availability of its much-hyped My AI assistant.
In case you didn’t know, this feature was initially limited to premium users only. This means that if you pay, you get the benefits of the rollout. However, the platform soon realized that it wanted to make it free for everyone, but this change hasn’t satisfied many Snapchat fans.
The reason is simple. This feature automatically pins a user’s chats to the top of his feed, whether the user likes it or not. Therefore, users of this feature are not happy with this news and are trying to give the bot he 1 star review, while others are looking for a way to remove it directly from the app.
Before commenting further, let’s first take a quick look at the basics of this feature. My AI is another name given to AI chatbots in apps powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It was first rolled out by the company in February of this year, but at the time he was limited to Snapchat Plus users only. The latter is the name of the company assigned to his premium subscription.
But last week, the app chose to make it free to everyone through a massive expansion to its users and a series of interesting updates around location sharing, story initiatives and more.
According to the company’s recent guidelines, the My AI chatbot is designed to do several different things. This requires answering a key number of trivia questions, giving buying advice, and also providing great travel recommendations.Other interesting activities include adding food recipe suggestions.
So the company basically integrated it in a way that makes it look like you’re talking to a new friend in the Snapchat app. But in reality, you are chatting with an AI-powered chatbot that acts as your assistant.
Everything was fine until users started getting really frustrated when the app started pinning My AI to the top of their chat feed. It was rolled out to so many users last week that many immediately expressed their dissatisfaction.
They didn’t like how the company randomly felt it was okay to pin their assistant to the top spot in chats. .
The news was first spotted by TechCrunch, a leading technology news outlet. People aren’t happy with the new changes, and they’re flooding the App Store to express their concerns and leave 1-star reviews. 1.67 stars added in just one week. In fact, most of the reviews this app has gotten in the past week or so have been 1 star. Yeah, what about Shocker?
App users have taken to other major social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter to express their concerns about the issue. They don’t like having their entire chatbot pinned to the top of their chat list.
It makes sense because the company not only added the AI-powered assistant without giving users a choice, but also gave them no control over how to use and remove it. And the general consensus is that they don’t feel it’s fair.
So you can’t actually hide the feature, remove it, or block it from appearing in your chat list.
