Snapchat Summit 2023: Big Generative AI Announcement and More Fun with My AI

Now at Snap Summit 2023, Snapchat’s annual event for new innovations, features, and tools for developers, the company is expanding My AI’s feature list while announcing many other features. Let’s see what they are.

What’s next for My AI?

If you’re unfamiliar with My AI, it’s an experimental chatbot powered by ChatGPT that allows individuals to answer trivia questions, give advice, help plan trips, and even suggest recipes. Designed to be your perfect companion. So far, the bot has been limited to his Snapchat+ subscribers, but Snap has announced that My AI is now rolling out globally to all users.

But that’s not all. In addition to expanded availability, My AI has also added many new features.

I can now personalize my AI and make it truly my own. Similar to how users can design their own Bitmoji, you can also customize My AI’s appearance, name your bot, and start chatting. You can also invite my AI to a group chat and summon it with a simple ‘@’ tag.

In addition, My AI can now pull recommended locations from Snap Map and suggest related lenses. This is especially useful if you need a bot to suggest weekend activities for your family or find great lens recommendations to celebrate a friend’s birthday.

My AI also leverages the power of generative AI to create and send snaps when you send them, allowing users to continue visual conversations alongside text conversations.

Separately, at the event, Snapchat reminded users that it has made some behind-the-scenes improvements to My AI to ensure a better chat experience. We strictly adhere to it and now also take the age of Snapchat users into account.

Generative AI for lenses

Snapchat is also using generative AI in Lens and is announcing a “new generation” of filters that will take advantage of it. Leveraging this technology, the company says, Lenses will work with AR faster and look more realistic than ever before.

Lenses have also been enhanced to fit the context of photos and videos taken by Snapchatters. According to the company, these work through a combination of visual understanding of the scene they’re focused on and an API that “understands factors such as the local weather forecast and time of day.” Snapchatters can also find better lens recommendations when people or pets are in the frame.

Snapchat is big in AR

Snapchat now lets users try on new makeup and outfits from major retailers. But last month, the company announced a new business, his AR Enterprise Services (ARES). This gives the retailer a tool that allows customers to try out these items at home, i.e. on his non-Snapchat app.

At Partnership Summit 2023, Snapchat introduced a new ARES service called AR Mirror, allowing businesses to bring AR to their physical spaces and events. Customers of these stores can try on products at participating stores, bypassing long tryout line lines entirely.

It’s not clear when Snapchat users in India will be able to benefit from them, but the company says it will be announcing more such experiences soon.

For concerts, Snapchat unveiled AR visuals via an in-app camera that interacts with the on-stage visual production, “bringing the artist’s creative vision to life like never before.”

Other New Snapchat Features

Snapchat is introducing new features to enhance voice and video calls, Stories and Snap Maps. With Call Lens, you can now appear in one frame of him with your friends and play games while chatting. New tools for creators on Snapchat

Creators can now add Linktree, a link-in-bio platform, to their public profiles. Finally, there’s a new tool that recommends pairing sounds with lenses to make your snaps “more expressive.”
