Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) announced on Monday that it will give all undergraduate students full access to Google AI tools from August as part of its efforts to incorporate new technologies into its curriculum.
In a news release yesterday, the university said the move is aimed at equipping all students with essential AI skills to prepare them for a competitive job market.
Noting that currently only 5% of its 52 undergraduate programs are related to AI applications, the school aims to expand courses that incorporate AI to around 40% by 2030.
Starting in August, students will have free access to Google AI tools such as Gemini Enterprise, Google AI Studio, and Vertex AI, and will also earn compute credits to build and deploy their own AI agents to help them learn.
NTU President Ho Teck-fa expressed hope that students will leverage new technologies to solve real-world problems, such as deploying AI agents to complete a series of tasks.
Using business students as an example, Ho said AI agents can be used to test different pricing points for new products on e-commerce websites.
NTU has also developed the NTU AI Learning Assistant (NALA), a platform that allows instructors to build customized AI instructors based on course content, providing students with personalized learning support 24 hours a day.
The curriculum also enhances problem-based learning, where students tackle real-world challenges from business, government, and society and design solutions rather than learning theory.
As part of the AI-powered learning system, students will learn how to use AI responsibly, evaluate the accuracy and ethical impact of the technology, and take responsibility for the results.
