AI Video & Visuals

A new report says more than 100,000 people watched a fake SpaceX livestream that combined real video with an AI-generated narration from Elon Musk.

According to a report and screenshots from TrustNodes, more than 125,000 people watched a SpaceX livestream on a fake YouTube channel that featured an on-screen QR code asking for cryptocurrency donations.

The QR code remained on screen throughout the livestream.

The YouTube channel @SpaceXFromElon has nearly 3 million subscribers despite lacking a visible checkmark. The real SpaceX YouTube channel @SpaceX has 6.7 million subscribers and, perhaps most importantly, has a verified checkmark.

In the fake livestream, an AI-generated voice of Elon Musk expounds on the benefits and future profits of Bitcoin (BTC), before selling viewers on the prospect of becoming millionaires with the cryptocurrency and directly asking them to scan a QR code.

AI-generated cryptocurrency scam videos have been on the rise alongside the technology explosion, with Elon Musk being a popular target, with the same channel using the same live stream during the solar eclipse just two months ago.

Musk is well known in the cryptocurrency community as a supporter of Dogecoin (DOGE).

Metrics regarding the number of viewers who followed a QR code are not currently available.
