Palakkad: These days, cyber crooks are also using artificial intelligence (AI) to dupe people. They are using this technology to make video calls with their victims.

The first step in the scam is to create a fake social media account. A random photo of a woman from the internet is set as the account's profile picture. A potential victim is then identified, who is likely to be highly influential and financially stable.

First, the scammers text chat with their victims and build a friendship with them. They then share the “responsibility” among themselves to scam people out of their money.

Once the victim starts persuasion over a video call, the AI kicks in: a virtual image of the woman shown in the profile picture is projected onto the screen, helping the scammer gain the other party's trust.

Scammers try not to ask for money in the first stage. Instead, they try to approach the victim by engaging in conversations about their family or work. During the conversation, the scammer claims to have made a lot of money through online stock investments. By repeating this claim, they eventually succeed in luring the victim into their trap.
