June 22 (Asia Today) — Samsung Electronics is deploying ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to many of its employees around the world in what OpenAI describes as one of the largest enterprise deployments ever.
Under the agreement announced Monday, ChatGPT and Codex will be available to all Samsung Electronics employees in South Korea and all Device Experience employees worldwide.
OpenAI said the launch represents a significant expansion of its enterprise business.
Samsung Electronics plans to use artificial intelligence tools across software development, marketing, product development, manufacturing, and corporate support operations.
Employees can use ChatGPT to find and analyze information, draft documents, interpret data, and develop ideas. Codex supports software development and internal workflow automation.
Codex helps employees write, review, and debug code. OpenAI said non-technical teams can also use the tool to turn ideas into internal software, websites and automated workflows.
OpenAI highlighted the security and management features offered through ChatGPT Enterprise. The service includes data protection, user and access management, and security controls designed to help enterprises use AI within internal governance and security policies.
“This historic development of OpenAI is particularly important as Samsung Electronics, a global leader in technology and manufacturing, embraces AI not as a tool limited to specific teams or functions, but as a core platform to improve the way employees work and innovate around the world,” said Harrison Kim, general manager of OpenAI Korea.
“OpenAI will work closely with Samsung Electronics to help its employees level up with ChatGPT and Codex, move from idea to execution faster, solve complex problems, and create new products and services,” Kim said.
The agreement also expands on the existing partnership between the two companies.
Samsung Electronics previously began cooperation with OpenAI to supply advanced memory chips for next-generation AI infrastructure. The latest agreement expands that relationship from infrastructure and semiconductors to workforce transformation and enterprise-wide AI adoption.
OpenAI is also expanding its presence among Korean businesses and institutions.
Seoul National University has deployed ChatGPT Edu to approximately 47,000 students and staff, and Kakao is providing access to ChatGPT through the KakaoTalk messaging platform.
Other Korean companies using ChatGPT Enterprise or OpenAI application programming interfaces include LG Electronics, LG Uplus, LG CNS, Samsung SDS, Krafton, Toss, Musinsa, and Korea Zinc.
