2026 will be Samsung's “breakthrough year” in the device sector, as the company promises to bring AI to all of its products.
Roh Tae-moon, president, CEO, and head of device experience (DX) division at Samsung Electronics, said: his new year address The company says, “AI technology needs to be organically integrated into all devices and service ecosystems in the DX field.'' “Through this, we can make a leap forward as a leading company in AI transformation,” he said.
The transformation, which the company has dubbed “AX,” is more than just an AI technology, but “a process that fundamentally changes our thinking and work processes,” Roh said.
President Roh has said that he wants 2026 to be a “breakthrough year” for the DX sector, but he has not given a timescale for this pan-device AI rollout, including whether it will be completed within the next 12 months.
However, that doesn't mean we can't expect anything less from the company when it comes to new devices. CES will open on January 6th, just four days after President Roh's speech, so there are strong rumors that the company will make some kind of important announcement. Given the mood music, there's reason to think these might be the first step in his vision for transforming the DX sector.
AI will play a central role in the semiconductor business
Samsung is already benefiting from the AI boom in its semiconductor business, and that momentum is expected to continue into 2026. In his New Year's address, Jung Yong-hyun, EVP and head of the device solutions (DS) division of the company, asserted, “Samsung Electronics is the only semiconductor company in the world that can provide a 'one-stop solution.''
“We will leverage this strength to meet the unprecedented demand for AI semiconductors and lead the AI era together with our customers.”
among them Financial results for the third quarter of 2025the company revealed that its DS division brought in revenue of 33.1 trillion Korean won ($22.9 billion) and generated a profit of 3.6 trillion Korean won ($2.5 billion) in the quarter. This is an increase of 19% and 6.6%, respectively, from the previous quarter.
Most of that is due to its memory range, with HBM3E DRAM said to be particularly popular “in response to strong demand for AI.” The outlook for Q4 2025 and FY 2026 focuses on the potential for AI to drive revenue not only through the HBM DRAM series (already sold out), but also DDR5 and LPDDR5x, and high-density QLC SSDs.
Samsung also benefits from a deal with OpenAI to supply AI-focused memory to the Stargate project. $500 billion joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank, and MGX.
