Openai boss Sam Altman met with New York City business leaders at the closure event on Tuesday to talk about the potential of artificial intelligence to surge in the city's economy, the Post learned.

Altman, whose company recently secured a $300 billion valuation, spoke to Hurst CEO Steven Swartz for about 45 minutes at a Fireside-Chat-style event, explaining his views on how AI will progress rapidly over the next three years, sources said.

Famous guest lists for the event hosted by the New York City Partnership include billionaire KKR co-founder Henry Kravis, Tischmann Spayer Rob Spayer, affiliate CEO Jeff Brow and PFNYC boss Kathy Wilde.

When contacted in the comments, the New York City partnership confirmed that 100 of its members were present to listen to Altman.

“[Altman] “Unless the nation continues to embrace the rapidly changing AI sector and try to overregulate it, New York sees great economic benefits from leading in AI,” the organization said in a statement.

“He explained the importance of educating students and the workforce on how to use AI tools to improve their own performance and leverage the quality of life that AI can help them achieve,” the statement added.

Openai's chief economist Ronnie Chatterji was also on hand to present the possibilities of AI that will increase productivity in the workforce.

Openai did not immediately return a request for comment.

In addition to Altman's speech, Openai has shared an economic report on its business relationship with New York, promoting the city's potential, “Artificial intelligence generates significant revenue, jobs and growth and “becomes global capital in the age of intelligence.”

“Even moderate forecasts economists estimate that AI could increase productivity growth by a few percentage points,” the report said a copy of it was obtained by the Post.

“If the US economy grows 1% points a year faster and increases over a decade, it will be nearly $3 trillion richer than New York's annual GDP,” the report added.

Openai's report promoted high-level AI adoption in New York. According to the report, the state ranks second in the country in terms of the number of developers currently building using Openai's AI framework.

The company said the SoHo office has more employees than other physical locations outside of its San Francisco headquarters, allowing NYC to “triple the size.”

New York City is also ranked as the world's top market by active enterprise users of its technology. Morgan Stanley, New York Mellon Bank, Icahn School of Medicine in Mount Sinai and Oscar Health are among its customers.

At the consumer level, New York ranks third in the country behind California and Texas for weekly active users of ChatGpt chatbots.
