Salesforce chief Marc Benioff says AI is now doing half of all his work at his company

Salesforce Inc. CEO Marc Benioff says his company is doubling its use of artificial intelligence. This technology is used to automate many human-made workloads until recently.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Benioff (pictured) said that AI agents are currently playing 30% to 50% of all jobs in his company.

“We all have to get our heads wrapped around this idea that AI can do what we were doing before.

The problem with some Salesforce employees is that they need to find another employer who is willing to pay them to perform that valuable job. Earlier this year, the company announced it would be firing around 1,000 staff. They also announced plans to hire an additional 1,000 people, but these new employees will focus on selling AgentForce technology. This means that these new workers are entrusted with recruiting other companies to employ AI that can automate the tasks that humans normally do, encouraging them to potentially replace some of their employees.

It's a worrying trend that seems to bother you. Earlier this month, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy wrote to employees where he discussed the increasing adoption of the company's generative AI tools, acknowledging that there is a greater likelihood that “less people” will be needed in the future than they currently employ.

The rise of AI comes as technology companies are looking for new ways to reduce costs and increase efficiency, with many already announcing plans to achieve it at the expense of human workers.

For example, Microsoft Corp. has already cut more than 6,000 jobs in May, and according to Fast Company, it reportedly has been laying off for a second time while investing more in AI. Google LLC also reportedly trimmed people from various departments.

Website layoffs. FYI says that more than 63,000 jobs have disappeared in the tech industry so far this year, with more reasons to believe AI is at least partially responsible for this trend.

His latest newsletter, Brian Merchant, writes that he is the author of “Blood in the Machine: The Origins of Rebellion Against Big Tech.” He argues that the technology is rapidly restructuring the Silicon Valley workforce.

According to Merchant, an employee at Crowdstrike Holdings Inc. told him that in his company's recent round of layoffs, many new hires were replaced by AI, despite saying it was to cut down on underperforming staff. “AI literally killed a lot of jobs on CrowdStrike this week,” the employee said.

An employee at Dropbox Inc. said during a recent round of layoffs, they backed AI tools that could automate the task across layoffs that focused on improving product reliability.

Benioff told Bloomberg that the workforce is currently undergoing a “digital labor revolution” and that his company's AI agents can work with around 93% accuracy.

“It's pretty good, but hitting 100% is not realistic,” Benioff said.
