Sailpoint turns the fear of AI security into fresh growth fuel

[SINGAPORE] The surge in agent artificial intelligence (AI) is betting on the growing demand for identity security tools to help businesses unlock AI promises without opening the door to new risks, so we are offering our company a new growth runway to our base cybersecurity platform, Sailpoint.

SailPoint's solutions are about identity security and help organizations ensure that the right users have access to data that is right for their work. The company has clients from several industries, including financial services, the public sector and telecommunications business.

“Agent AI is really mindsharing now with these (enterprises). They're all trying to find ways to leverage this new technology,” said Mark McClain, CEO and founder of SailPoint. Business time. “They all also realize there are related security risks that they are not dealing with properly.”

AI adoption rates move from linear to exponential across the industry, but some have discontinued actual deployments, due to security concerns.

Approximately four out of five respondents to the study commissioned by SailPoint said that AI agents had inappropriate access or shared data.

While there is pressure to adopt AI in every company, there is also a growing drive from the cybersecurity teams within the company, tapping on the brakes to address these security risks.

As identity emerges as an attack vector that violates the network, companies are under pressure to regulate their users. The problem with user management is that most of the users in a company may be contractors or suppliers rather than employees.

Coupled with AI agents that cannot flag if compromised, the urgency is ratcheted up to find a way to protect this vector.

“We believe there are opportunities to potentially accelerate as businesses begin to understand this opportunity better,” McClain said.

Tap this opportunity and existing customers may improve to the top line as they are Cross-Saard's new services and features to address this new security concern.

SailPoint's latest finances saw revenues increase 23% year-on-year for the first quarter of 2025, up from US$187.7 million to US$235 million.

Losses were high – USD 185 million in the first quarter 2025 compared to USD 68.2 million in the first quarter 2024, most of this was driven by a stock-based compensation expense of USD 160.5 million.

Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) from Subscription is a key metric tracked by SailPoint as we move to the Software as a Service business model.

The ARR for the first quarter of 2025 was US$925 million, an increase of 30% year-on-year, and the subscription ARR was US$574 million, an increase of 39% from the first quarter of 2024.

The majority of Sailpoint's customers are in the US, accounting for about two-thirds of their business. Of the rest, Europe is the next largest revenue contributor to geography, followed by the Asia-Pacific region.

The company is seeing growth in the Asia-Pacific region over the rest due to its small bases.

“We're not very covering these markets, so we're making a pretty big investment in the non-American landscape. We see opportunities and see a lot of business here,” McClain said.

Sailpoint counts among client companies such as Globe Telecom in the Philippines and the top 20 US banks.

The company's conversations with local customers are becoming more sophisticated in order to regulate users and protect themselves from potential threats.

Currently, compliance with data protection or residency law regulations is driving emerging countries to jump and think like mature peers.

“You might think there's a huge demand here. These companies may not have been on the same journey that the companies that started with us did,” says McClain. “Because some of these companies are under pressure to adopt these new technologies.”
