Chat GPT started the AI revolution, allowing users to ask AI chatbots any number of questions and get responses ranging from basic research to entire novels and more. Now another company has developed a way to directly create AI-generated videos. iphone.
AI startup Runway (opens in new tab) (also known as RunwayML, not to be confused with fintech startup Runway Financial) has released an iOS app. (opens in new tab) the user 1st generation (opens in new tab) Beta, AI Tools, a video-to-video generative AI model. In fact, it’s easiest to think of it as a video editor that allows you to transform existing content into any style. Gen-1 beta tools are available in your web browser or our newly released iOS app.
This tool 2nd generation, which allows users to create videos from text prompts. This feature is not yet available in the iOS app, but will be added soon.

But still, Gen-1 is a very good tool. I’ve played around with his web browser version and was able to stylishly convert an existing surfer video into a watercolor clip with relative ease. It’s easy to see how this AI tool can be a huge boon for creators. This allows you to turn an existing video into a new one. Also, the ability to shoot directly on your iPhone and convert videos on the fly is definitely better than the web browser version.
I’m not saying Gen-1 is perfect. It has some strange quirks. First, you cannot convert entire movies or scenes. Gen-1 can only handle 5 seconds of video content at a time. Second, AI tools are relatively easy to use, but not fast. It takes several minutes to process each AI-generated video. Still worth a try. You can try it now for free.
How to use Runway Gen-1

There are currently two ways to use Gen-1: a web browser or an iOS app.
On your iPhone, first download RunwayML App (opens in new tab). After downloading the app to your iPhone, open it and loginor create a Runway account.
Once that’s done, you’re ready to create. Runway’s AI tools also have a paid model, but Gen-1 is free to try (the free plan allows you to create three projects, according to Runway’s website). Simply shoot new footage from the app or upload an existing video from your iPhone and convert it with Gen-1 within the app.

The main difference from web browsers is that you can’t shoot content, only edit it. Once logged in, look in the AI Magic Tools section of the app. runway homepage (opens in new tab) and Click “Gen-1: Video to Video”. From there you can drag and drop or upload video files and convert them to new styles using Gen-1 AI tools. After creating a new AI, you can download it and show it off later.
Is this AI tool really groundbreaking? Honestly, no. It’s a cooler novelty. But it’s easy to see how the creator uses her Gen-1 to take her videos to the next level. Video is even more useful when integrated into Runway’s mobile app. And when Gen-2 is integrated into his RunwayML app, users will have access to very powerful AI tools, which could definitely be a game changer. But for now, let’s have some fun filming a fun AI video of a watercolor surfer.
