Final Cut Pro users will soon be able to choose between a one-time purchase or a subscription model. But news of Apple’s new Creator Studio subscription includes a list of new tools being added to the popular video editor. This list includes new AI-powered search, beat detection, and montage maker.
The update, scheduled to arrive on January 28th with Apple Creator Studio, will add two new forms of AI-powered search to the Video Editor.
First, Transcript Search allows creators to quickly find the right soundbite. This tool probably builds on previous releases of AI-powered automatic captions. Apple says the tool can categorize hours of footage with a simple text search and is specialized for interviews and video podcasts.
Next, users can also use Visual Search to search for the video footage itself.
The ability to search for specific objects in your iPhone’s camera roll without manually tagging photos is one of my favorite Apple Intelligence features. I think this tool is equally useful for video editing.
Another new AI-based update called Beat Detection detects beats within music tracks and visualizes them in a timeline. This feature is designed to help editors time their visuals to the beat of the music.
Finally, Final Cut Pro now includes tools that use AI to automatically create simple montages from your footage. According to Apple, Montage Maker finds “the best visual moments in your footage” and creates a montage from them.
Creators can adjust the pace, cut visuals to match music, and reframe vertical and horizontal projects with intelligent auto-cropping.
However, Apple Creator Studio launches on January 28th, but unlike Adobe’s move to subscriptions, Apple says it will still be available for one-time purchases. However, the tech giant notes that “access to some premium content is only available to Apple Creator Studio subscribers.”
