A day after the handheld community put together their work based on the cryptic images GoRetroid shared about the new GoRetroid handheld, the Retroid Pocket 2S is now officially announced. And it’s been great, just as we all expected it to be. So don’t waste your time on intros. Take a look at the latest Android handhelds from GoRetroid.
Now that everything is official, what did the community do right and what did they do wrong? assembled the parts correctly. However, we were left wondering what upgrades would be included, given that only a sneaky photoshopped teaser image was revealed. The safest bet was that GoRetroid would inherit the current model, his Retroid Pocket 3+, and pack his T618 CPU inside the RP2 model form factor.
A new video posted on YouTube confirms the return of the RP2 form factor, but still leaves the big question about what’s inside. So we’re still dying to know what this mysterious unlabeled CPU in the video is.
As you can see in the teaser image, you can see that the position of the D-pad has been changed. And its shape is more similar to the design used in the RP3. And joysticks are obviously very different. If they do the right thing, they will be the new hall sensor sticks that are becoming the norm. Also at the top he has two new buttons and a relocated LED. GoRetroid seems to have opted for a more stealthy look with no text or logos on the face of the console. It’s what we really love. I’m not sure what the RP2S material is, but it looks a bit metallic even in the renders. Of course, that’s what we would love to see, but it’s impossible to say.
One thing I got wrong is that the screen dimensions have changed on the newer models. A side-by-side comparison of the two models reveals that they are identical in shape with only a few tweaks and additions. No major reshaping has taken place here. So, it looks like this one will have an additional 3.5-inch screen. Still a great screen, but I was hoping for a 4 inch as a nice upgrade.
The teaser video for the new Retroid Pocket 2S is really nice. GoRetroid did a great job with the teaser, showing off all the great details and making it look really good. But there is still a lot of room for imagination. Obviously, everyone wants to know what the heck is inside this thing. Could it be the T618 CPU? That’s what 99% of us guess. Of course, some people are still hoping for RK3588. But I don’t think that is happening. But as I said in my previous post, I’m really happy to see an upgraded Retroid Pocket 2, even if it’s his T618 chip. We know people are sick of that sort of thing. But it doesn’t fit the RP2 form factor better without requiring further modifications such as active cooling.
We’re absolutely delighted with what we’ve seen so far with the new Retroid Pocket 2S and can’t wait to hear more solid details about it as soon as possible.
