Retail brands skip steps on the path to agent AI

AI News

Retailers are deploying AI Shopping Assistants while they lag behind table stakes features such as product availability and language support. This discovery comes from the B2C and retail-centric edition of Lucidworks, a 2025 Generation AI Global Benchmark Study.

Lucidworks' annual survey combines a wide range of surveys of over 1,600 AI decision makers with AI guided ratings from over 1,100 companies across 48 industries. This methodology represents the first use of agent AI for competitive intelligence benchmarking.

This retail-specific breakout report reveals a stunning cutting.

“Thirty-four percent of e-commerce companies are working on AI-guided sales, while 49% have found that they don't even have product availability in their search results. “It's like chatting with salespeople at a clothing store, just to find out they've exhausted their size. Some companies have replicated that frustrating experience online. And millions have spent on AI to do that. ”
