The Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) is a new university-level research institute within the National University of Singapore (NUS), jointly supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and NUS. SGFIN aims to develop deep research capabilities in sustainable and green finance, provide thought leadership in the field of sustainability, and shape sustainability outcomes across the financial sector and economy.
This role is ideal for those wishing to engage in academic or industry research in quantitative analysis, especially in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence. This role includes the design and development of various analytical frameworks for analyzing structured, unstructured and non-traditional data related to corporate financial, environmental and social indicators.
There are no educational requirements for this position and candidates are given the opportunity to build a research portfolio.
duties and responsibilities
Successful applicants are expected to be responsible for:
- Designing research projects in close collaboration with Institute Directors (Prof. Sumit Aggarwal, Prof. Johan Suleman, Prof. Weina Chan) and research affiliates
- Takes responsibility and responsibility for the successful execution of research projects, ensuring that they are completed within required deadlines and within the allotted budget, and that project specifications and goals are met/exceeded .
- Pre-project planning, including identifying the resources needed to successfully complete the project, including project team staffing and organizational needs, and preparing a high-level project plan, including project timelines and resource requirements. participate in the activities of
- Development of data analysis framework.
- Plan, supervise, and execute (as appropriate) the development of supervised and unsupervised machine learning tools to process information from various data sources, including commercial databases and alternative unconventional datasets.
- Plan, oversee, and (if necessary) execute impact scale generation using machine learning in collaboration with the Institute Director and other researchers.
- We monitor the progress of research projects and provide necessary interventions to ensure the smooth completion of each project.
- Manage and coordinate project deliverables and ensure their quality
- Manage industry partner expectations by understanding their needs and providing realistic expectations and scope for each project
- Manage research and collaboration with industry stakeholders. This includes providing regular progress updates and deliverables to grant funding bodies and project sponsors.
- Preparing results for industry communications, presentations, academic papers for journal publication
- Guide, mentor, and supervise researchers on the project team
- Work closely with other members of the SGFIN team to support SGFIN’s activities and goals.
requirement
- A background in computing, information systems, economics, business, finance, or a related field is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably a master’s degree in one of these subjects, but a PhD is required for research fellow positions.
- A basic understanding of the financial sector (banks and other financial institutions), financial markets, corporate financial statements and credit risk analysis is desirable.
- Good knowledge of the research areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence is highly preferred.
- Programming skills, including knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence processes and tools, and experience in conducting and supporting research and data analysis for research projects are highly preferred.
- Database administration experience preferred.
